-1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually abused before the age 18
-28.3% of adults were physically abused as a child

-There are many forms of maltreatment including neglect, physical abuse, exploitation and emotional abuse
- The majority of cases reported to Child Protective Services involve neglect, followed by physical and sexual abuse
- Examples of child abuse: shaking, shoving, slapping,hitting, beating with a belt or any object, burning a child with matches and cigarettes, water that's too hot, pulling their hair out, breaking a child's arm, leg or other bones, and not letting a child eat, drink, or use the restroom

Abusers
Abusers abuse because they might have mental problems. Another reason is because they don't think and they don't know if it's going to hurt or affect the other person or not. Abusers might take their anger out by abusing other people. Abusers might not think they're abusing when they actually are. One type of abuse that is common, is emotional abuse. Emotional abuse involves yelling, threatening , and calling names. Some of the causes of abuse are alcohol and drugs abuse, lack of skills in raising a child, and mental illness.

The Effects of Abuse
A child who has been abused early in the life are more likely to suffer from mental problems like anxiety and depression. The victims can likely suffer from flashbacks. A child who has been abused and does not deal with the abuse can possibly grow up to be an adult who abuses children.
